What is your philosophy?

We believe in actors putting in the work, being prepared, no b.s., and no excuses. Out motto is #pleasedontsuck, meaning: be normal, don’t be crazy, and focus on the work. We want our actors to book jobs in TV and film, and to facilitate that, we offer a no nonsense, simple, direct approach based on honesty, feedback, and allowing our actors to fail in a safe environment, and "get out the kinks." We treat our classes like an "actor gym," where actors work out their tv and film acting muscles. We believe every actor is unique, and our classes and coaching focus on helping actors put their fingerprint on their scene, while also creating a dynamic, interesting, emotionally and physically connected performance.

Do you offer online classes via Zoom?

Yes.

How many people are in each class?

8-10 students max. We keep it very small.

How long is each class session?

8 weeks for adults. All classes are ongoing and can be taken as many times as you would like. Think of it as a “gym” to work out your on-camera muscles. A lot of people sign up again after each session.

How long is each class?

3 hours.

Do all students work in each class?

Absolutely.

I’m a working actor. Do I still need to audition for Matt?

Yes. We are also auditioning personalities! No matter how famous you are.

Do I need experience to audition for the studio?

You need a headshot, resume, and some acting training. Most of our classes are professional. We do, however, offer one beginner on-camera class.

Do students get their footage sent each week?

Yes. But it’s for personal use only, not for demo reels or online casting profiles.

Can I audit a class?

Nope.  We get far too many requests for this, and simply can't accommodate.  Our classes are very small, and we find that having strangers sitting in really disrupts the creative environment of the class.  

What happens if I book a job and can’t make class?

Congrats! We will make it work. Email us.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel within 7 days of the start of class, we will issue you credit for a future class. If you cancel within 48 hours of a class starting, or after a class has started, we are unable to offer refunds or credit under no circumstances.

Do you offer credit for missed classes?

We don't. But you can send a self-tape of your scene that week and we will critique it! Good way to sharpen your self tape skills.

Once I take a class, can I take another class at the studio or do I have to audition again?

The teacher will discuss this with you, and if we agree it's the right move, then you can just sign up.  No need to audition again, unless you’ve been away from the studio for over a year.

What the heck is the “Interest List”? Does that mean the class is sold out?

Not at all! When you click on our “Interest List” you fill be redirected to a google form. Current students get first dibs on holding their spot for the next round, and they have to tell us at the final class if they are staying or going. Once current students register, we notify the interest lists and you are welcome to sign up for class! You can fill out interest lists for as many classes that you are interested in taking!

Can I sign up for the “Interest List” without an audition?

No. Unless you have studied here before. For new students interested in adult classes, you have to be interview and audition for the studio before signing up!

When do you notify the Interest List if there are any open spots?

A week before class starts.  We will send out an email as a reminder/heads up about 2 weeks before class starts (check your spam).  First come, first serve. So jump on it!  We fill quick.

If I don’t get into a class do I automatically get put on the Interest List for the next round?

No. You must sign up again to show your continued interest.

Can you still help with my self tape via Zoom?

Yes. Our instructors will coach you through your tape over Zoom, including lighting and sound, framing, etc., be a reader for you, coach you, and walk you through the whole process so that it's easy and stress free! Do you offer payment plans?

We normally don’t, but every once in a while we will make an exception. We will do our best to help you out.

Do you offer weekly acting lessons?

We do! Email sam@mnactingstudio.com to see which coaches are available for on going lessons!

Can you guys hook me up with an agent or manager? Do you bring in casting directors?

Nope.  We keep that out of our classrooms.

Are you guys casting anything?

I wish.

What does your studio look like?

We have a beautiful big acting studio in the middle of Manhattan on 35th and 7th with a large classroom/taping room and two additional taping rooms, as well as a nice, spacious waiting room. It’s cozy, creative, intimate, and has a great energy so that actors can relax, put their stress aside, and do their best work. It’s a safe space for actors to knock down walls, take big risks, and come out of it a stronger actor with a better awareness of their strengths and weaknesses.
