Started by acting coach Matt Newton, MN Acting Studio is Southern Connecticut’s only professional level advanced on-camera acting studio for kids, teens, and adults. We are bringing the same level of professionalism we have at our NYC location to Darien. MN Acting Studio expertly combines with the craft of acting with the practical, business side. We train actors to be be prepared for everything from walking into a professional audition, to stepping onto set. All of our teachers are working professionals who know the business inside and out, and we pride ourselves on honesty and practicality as it pertains to becoming a professional actor.

ongoing MONTHLY on-camera CLASSES

The classes at MN Acting Studio are professional level tv and film classes taught by working industry professionals, combining technical on-camera skills with real world, practical applications.  All new students must schedule an audition with Matt Newton before signing up for class by emailing with pic and resume. Each class is limited to 10 students to maximize personal attention, and all students receive a video of the work after each class. Classes are ongoing, offered every month to ensure maximum growth and training. We also occasionally bring in casting directors, agents, and managers to speak with our students.


Private audition coaching and audition taping by appointment with one of our coaches. Create footage for your online casting profile, your website, your demo reel, your slate shot, your linked in profile, or for a specific audition. We use 3 point lighting, a DSLR camera with a shotgun mic, neutral gray backdrop, and we supply the reader. Just show up and we do the rest! Last minute coaching and taping available. Available Monday through Saturday. Rates start at $50 for a half hour professional taping session without coaching.

For actors who are transitioning from theatre to tv and film, and want to learn the essential skills for auditioning for the camera, as well as how to up their game for their auditions and make stronger choices. Actors will be assigned challenging scripts 1-2 days before each class, and will deal with everything from cold-reads, as well as costar and guest star scripts (comedy and drama). Actors will also learn their type, and how to market themselves effectively. Limited to 10 students.

Learn the basics of MN Acting Studio's approach to tv and film acting in a safe, non judgmental setting, with a focus on listening, confidence, dissolving your fears, and using your imagination to fully embrace the moment and approach all of your work with specificity and authenticity.   Actors will work with current scripts to learn the essence of on-camera acting, and how to keep their work simple and real.  Matt will assign scripts each week a few days before and coach each actor to bring the script to life through different partnered exercises. Actors can take the class as many times as they would like, with further learning each round.  All actors receive a video of their work.  Limited to 10 students.  At the end of the final class Paul will do a Q&A about the business of acting, where to find auditions, how to get an agent or manager, and what to do next.

This real world audition class is for working, represented professional adult actors who want to work on current scripts each week in an extremely challenging, professional level class. Actors will be coached to stand out on network level tv auditions, and will tackle everything from cold-reads, to chemistry reads, procedural drama, as well as single and multi-camera comedy. This class is all about stretching yourself outside your comfort zone (with roles both inside and outside your type), and developing the confidence and skill to nail any kind of auditions scenario thrown at you. Focus is on big guest star and series regular scripts. Limited to 10 students. $299

Matt Newton is a Darien resident and the founder of the acclaimed MN Acting Studio in New York City. He is one of the most sought after tv and film acting coaches in New York City, and has coached on many TV shows, including “Blue Bloods,” “Master of None,” “The Affair,” “Jessica Jones,” “Orange is the New Black”, and the upcoming Netflix mini series “Central Park Five.” Matt is also an industry contributor to Backstage magazine, and is the author of the popular book “10 Steps to Breaking into Acting.” Matt’s clients have booked roles on countless tv shows and films.

As an actor, Matt has guest starred on dozens of TV shows, and been in numerous films and commercials. Credits include: Van Wilder, Gilmore Girls, Criminal Minds, Drake and Josh Go Hollywood, Royal Pains, Ugly Betty, the Americans, Dragnet, JAG, Family Law, Dahmer (with Jeremy Renner), Poster Boy (with Karen Allen), Miracles, Undressed, Guiding Light, and All My Children, Peace of Mind (award for Best Actor at Philadelphia First Glance festival).

 Matt earned a degree in Drama from Vassar College, and spent a semester training at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center in Waterford, Connecticut.
